Raphael Rabello - Todos os Tons (1992)
Nuke notes:
In my opinion, by far he's the best Brazilian acoustic guitar player evar! I won't spend too much time here talking about Raphael Rabello, coz he's really a true genius. Just Google his name and you'll get a lot of info about him. This album is a kind of tribute to Tom Jobim's music. And we have here a few special guests, like Tom Jobim himself on the piano (track 08), Paco de Lucia (track 01) and the legendary Nico Assumpção on the Bass (tracks 08 and 09). Possible post of the Month! Thanks to JP for the contribution! A must see! I mean... A MUST LISTEN!!! ;-)

Tribal Tech - Illicit (1992)
Tribal Tech is a progressive fusion band, originally formed in 1984 by guitarist Scott Henderson and bass player Gary Willis. The band includes Scott Kinsey on keyboard and Kirk Covington on drums, and has produced nine albums that stretch the borders between blues, jazz, and rock. The band is widely regarded for the prodigious talents of its individual members and for its importance to the modern fusion music scene but has dissolved following the release of 2000's Rocket Science, with the various members pursuing solo careers. "Illicit" is the fifth album by Tribal Tech and possibly the strongest.

Colin Hodgkinson - Back Door Too (2008)

Bassist/singer Colin Hodgkinson was born in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, England, on October 14, 1945. He began playing professionally in 1966, initially in a jazz-rock trio, then as a member of Eric Delaney's Showband. He briefly played in Alexis Korner's band New Church in 1969. He was the leader of the jazz-rock trio Back Door, which he formed in 1971 in Blakey, Yorkshire, England, with Ron Aspery (keyboards, saxophone) and Tony Hicks (drums; replaced by Adrian Tilbrook in 1975). The group was unusual in that Hodgkinson's bass was the lead instrument. Their first, self-titled album, consisting entirely of instrumentals, was released on the local Blakey Records label in 1972. (The tunes were mostly written by Hodgkinson and Aspery.) Then, the band was signed to Warner Bros. Records, which reissued the album in 1973 and released their three subsequent LPs, 8th Street Nites (1973), Another Fine Mess (1974), and Activate (1976). Back Door disbanded in 1977. (The Human Bed, an album containing the band's BBC sessions of 1973-1974, was released in 2002.)
All along, Hodgkinson had appeared on sessions with Alexis Korner (Bootleg Him!, Alexis Korner, Mr. Blues, Get Off My Cloud), and after the demise of Back Door, he continued to do so (Just Easy [1978], The Party LP [1980]), sometimes performing with Korner in a duo. He also worked with Jan Hammer (Black Sheep [1979]; Hammer [1980]; Untold Passion [1981] and Here to Stay [1982], by Neal Schon & Jan Hammer), Cozy Powell (Octopuss [1983]), Whitesnake (Slide It In [1984]), Mick Jagger (She's the Boss [1985]), James Young (City Slicker [1986], Out on a Day Pass [1994]), Konstantin Wecker (Wieder Dahoam [1986]), the Spencer Davis Group (Live Together [1988]), and Miller Anderson (Celtic Moon [1998]). Often, he contributed songwriting to these projects as well as playing bass.
Eventually, Hodgkinson moved to Germany, while continuing to appear with different editions of the Spencer Davis Group. In 1998, the German Inakustik label released his debut solo album, The Bottom Line. He also worked with guitarist Frank Diez in the Electric Blues Duo, resulting in the 1998 release Lucky at Cards. A third 1998 album was Steaming, credited to Pete York, Brian Auger, and Hodgkinson. He continued to record with other musicians, notably on Jon Lord's Pictured Within (1999) and Chris Rea's Return of the Fabulous Hofner Blue Notes (2008). Backdoor Too!, credited to Colin Hodgkinson Group (including Rod Mason [saxophone/piano] and Paul Robinson [drums] and thus replicating the instrumental lineup of Back Door) was released on the Inakustik imprint Rokoko Records in 2008.
Although this album is credited to the Colin Hodgkinson Group, as its title, Backdoor Too!, suggests, it represents a return to the instrumentation and musical approach of Hodgkinson's 1970s jazz-rock instrumental trio, Back Door. In fact, as he explains in the liner notes, the new group grew out of reunions of the old one. Specifically, original Back Door members Hodgkinson (bass), Ron Aspery (saxophone/keyboards), and Tony Hicks (drums) reunited for the album Askin' the Way in 2003, but Aspery died at the end of that year. Hicks found a replacement for Aspery in Rod Mason, but then Hicks died in September 2006. Hodgkinson, who had been writing material for the reunited Back Door, decided to continue the project with Mason, and they added drummer Paul Robinson. On Backdoor Too!, they re-recorded old Back Door numbers including "The Spoiler" and "The Bed Creaks Louder," along with new tunes mostly written by Hodgkinson. That spare sound of three instruments -- electric bass, drums, and either soprano or alto saxophone (with occasional piano overdubs by Mason) -- recalls Back Door, although Hodgkinson is less leader and more group member this time, despite taking greater prominence in the band name. He does remind listeners of who's in charge at the end, however, performing the final track, "Sunshine on the Tongue," by himself.
1 Who Said That? (Hodgkinson) 3:03
2 Have You Been There? (Hodgkinson, Mason) 5:39
3 The Spoiler (Aspery, Hodgkinson) 3:49
4 Blakey (Mason) 3:47
5 The Bed Creaks Louder (Aspery, Hodgkinson) 2:54
6 Paicesetter (Hodgkinson) 4:42
7 Starlite by Sea (Hodgkinson, Mason) 2:32
8 Like You Do (Aspery, Hodgkinson) 3:41
9 Dear Aretha (Hodgkinson, Mason) 4:15
10 Bop That Bird (Hodgkinson) 2:58
11 Sunshine on the Tongue (Hodgkinson) 2:39

Yoshida Brothers - Ibuki (Japan 1999) - Tsugaru Shamisen
Derived from the sanshin, an instrument of the Ryukyu Kingdom (whose main island was Okinawa), the shamisen (Japanese: literally "three flavor strings") is a three-stringed fretless instrument played with a large wooden plectrum called a bachi which is often used to strike both string and skin, creating a highly percussive sound. The shamisen is similar in length to a guitar, but its neck is much slimmer. Its drum-like rounded rectangular body is covered front and back with skin in the manner of a banjo, which amplifies the sound of the strings. For a Brazilian presentation of the shamisen, see:www.jishin.lemacsi.com.br/Shamisen.aspx
Ryoichiro Yoshida (born 1977) and Ken'ichi Yoshida (born 1979) hail from Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan. The two brothers began to study and play the shamisen from the age of five and would develop an high-energy style of playing, heavily influenced by fast aggressive soloing that emphasizes speed and twang, which is usually associated with rock music on the electric guitar. In 1999, their first album "Ibuki" (The Power of Life) sold over 100,000 copies and made them national celebrities in Japan. They have since recorded nearly a dozen albums, of which the most recent have merged the shamisen sound with Western, African, classical and Latin rhythms, and have toured extensively in Asia and America.
